Computer Numerical Control Programmer

About the Company

Our client is a large multinational medical device manufacturer known for innovation, precision engineering, and technological advancement. Their Philadelphia site operates as a dedicated R&D and product development facility, supporting the design, prototyping, and refinement of next-generation medical technologies.

The Opportunity

We are seeking a skilled CNC Programmer to join a highly advanced R&D prototype machining shop based in Philadelphia.

This role sits within a research & development environment, not traditional end-user production. You will support engineers and product development teams by programming complex, high-precision components used in device development, testing, and validation.

The work is low-volume, high-mix, typically involving batches of approximately 20–40 devices, with designs and requirements evolving regularly.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, write, and optimise CNC programs using Mastercam
  • Program and support machining operations across:
  • Haas machines
  • Swiss Star machines
  • 4 Micron S400
  • Heidenhain controls
  • Interpret CAD models, engineering drawings, and prototype specifications
  • Support new product development, prototyping, and validation builds
  • Collaborate closely with R&D engineers and machinists
  • Troubleshoot machining and programming challenges
  • Optimise toolpaths, strategies, and cycle times for prototype work
  • Maintain high precision and adherence to tight tolerances
  • Support documentation and quality requirements

Requirements

  • Proven experience as a CNC Programmer
  • Strong proficiency with Mastercam
  • Experience programming multi-axis CNC machines
  • Familiarity with Heidenhain controls
  • Experience within prototype, R&D, or NPI environments preferred
  • Comfortable machining complex, high-tolerance components
  • Medical device, aerospace, or other high-precision industry experience desirable
  • Strong problem-solving skills and adaptability

What’s on Offer

  • Salary: $90,000 per year
  • Stable late shift: 2 PM – 10 PM
  • Comprehensive relocation package
  • Highly varied, technically challenging work
  • Direct involvement in new medical device development
  • Exposure to cutting-edge R&D and advanced machining technologies
  • Opportunity to work within a globally recognised organisation
