We are recruiting for a Powder Metallurgist / Materials Scientist to join an innovative advanced manufacturing organisation developing next-generation metal powder systems and materials technologies.
Supporting additive manufacturing, powder processing, and advanced alloy development programmes, this position will play a key role in moving materials from research and development through qualification and production.
The role will initially be remote for approximately two years, with periodic travel to North Carolina, before transitioning to an on-site position in Alabama.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the development and optimisation of advanced metal powder systems
- Evaluate powder characteristics including particle size distribution, morphology, chemistry, and flowability
- Support powder qualification, material validation, and process development activities
- Work with complex alloy systems, including high-performance and high-entropy alloys
- Analyse material performance data and provide technical recommendations
- Collaborate with engineering, manufacturing, and quality teams
- Support customer and supplier technical discussions where required
- Contribute to technical documentation, reporting, and programme reviews
- Develop scalable approaches for powder processing, handling, testing, and qualification
Requirements
- Degree in Materials Science, Metallurgy, Powder Metallurgy, Chemical Engineering, or related discipline
- Experience working with metal powders, alloy development, or powder-based manufacturing processes
- Strong understanding of powder characterisation and material properties
- Experience analysing process-performance relationships
- Strong technical communication and documentation skills
- Ability to work independently within a remote environment
Preferred
- Additive Manufacturing experience
- Powder Bed Fusion (LPBF) knowledge
- Sintering, HIP, or heat treatment experience
- High-performance alloy or high-entropy alloy development experience
- Advanced manufacturing background
