We are recruiting for an Additive Manufacturing Engineer to join an advanced materials manufacturer developing next-generation metal additive manufacturing processes for highly regulated industries including aerospace, defense, semiconductor, medical, and energy.
This is a hands-on R&D position focused on refractory metal alloys, process development, material qualification, and industrialisation. The successful candidate will work at the forefront of additive manufacturing innovation, helping develop robust material and process solutions for future commercial applications.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead additive manufacturing process development activities within the R&D team
- Design and execute Design of Experiments (DOE) on metal additive manufacturing platforms
- Develop and qualify new refractory metal alloys for production applications
- Utilise Statistical Process Control (SPC) to establish process capability and material allowables
- Develop Qualified Material Process (QMP) packages and technical documentation
- Support powder evaluation, specification development, and recycling strategies
- Manage heat treatment and Hot Isostatic Pressing (HIP) trials
- Optimise build parameters and process strategies on LPBF systems
- Present technical findings to internal stakeholders and external audiences
- Support technology transfer from R&D into production manufacturing
- Collaborate closely with engineering, materials, production, and quality teams
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Materials Science, Metallurgy, Aerospace Engineering, or a related discipline
- 3+ years of metal additive manufacturing process development experience
- Experience managing LPBF production builds
- Knowledge of Design of Experiments (DOE) methodologies
- Strong technical documentation and reporting skills
- Mechanical aptitude and problem-solving capability
- Experience with laboratory, testing, and inspection equipment
Preferred
- Master’s Degree or PhD
- Refractory alloy or high-temperature materials experience
- Powder metallurgy experience
- HIP and vacuum heat treatment knowledge
- Material characterisation and qualification experience
- Aerospace, defense, semiconductor, or medical manufacturing background
- Familiarity with NASA-STD-6030 or similar qualification standards
- Experience working with controlled technical data environments
