Position Summary
The Calibration Services Manager is responsible for leading the strategic and operational functions of the calibration laboratory. This role ensures technical excellence, regulatory compliance, operational efficiency, and strong financial performance. The successful candidate will bring demonstrated leadership experience, strong technical expertise, and a proactive approach to innovation, automation, and continuous improvement.
This position plays a critical role in production planning, customer satisfaction, quality management, and long-term business growth.
Key Responsibilities
Laboratory Operations
- Oversee day-to-day calibration laboratory activities, ensuring quality, safety, efficiency, and compliance with applicable quality systems and regulatory requirements.
- Maintain adherence to ISO/IEC 17025 and other relevant industry standards.
Customer Success
- Partner with customers and internal stakeholders to deliver tailored calibration solutions.
- Resolve service concerns through effective root cause analysis and implementation of sustainable corrective actions.
Financial & Strategic Leadership
- Manage laboratory budgets and profit-and-loss performance.
- Support strategic planning, capital equipment investments, and business growth initiatives.
Production Planning & Resource Management
- Develop and execute production schedules.
- Allocate resources effectively to meet turnaround time commitments and operational objectives.
- Monitor laboratory throughput and productivity metrics.
Automation & Continuous Improvement
- Identify, implement, and scale automation initiatives and digital tools that improve accuracy, efficiency, and productivity.
- Lead Lean and continuous improvement efforts across laboratory operations.
Quality & Compliance
- Maintain a robust quality management system.
- Lead internal audits and corrective action programs.
- Ensure accreditation requirements and safety standards are consistently met.
Team Leadership & Development
- Recruit, train, mentor, and develop laboratory personnel.
- Conduct performance reviews and establish development plans that support career progression.
- Promote cross-training and knowledge sharing across the team.
- Foster a culture of accountability, engagement, and continuous improvement.
Safety & Risk Management
- Ensure compliance with all laboratory safety policies and procedures.
- Serve as the site safety leader and champion a strong safety culture.
Additional Responsibilities

- Complete accurate and timely performance evaluations.

Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Strong knowledge of calibration principles, measurement science, instrumentation, and quality systems
- Thorough understanding of ISO/IEC 17025 requirements and laboratory accreditation standards
- Experience with Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS) and laboratory automation technologies
- Lean Manufacturing and/or Six Sigma certification preferred
- Experience leading change management and operational transformation initiatives
- Strong financial acumen, including budgeting, forecasting, and business case development
- Excellent communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills
Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Metrology, Business Management, or a related discipline (or equivalent combination of education and experience)
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in a calibration laboratory environment
- At least 2 years of leadership or management experience
- Experience managing customer relationships and business operations, including P&L responsibility
- Demonstrated success with production planning, process improvement, Lean methodologies, and automation implementation
- Proven ability to lead, coach, and develop high-performing teams
