CNC Programmer – R&D / Prototyping

Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
$90,000 per year
Monday–Friday, 2:00 PM–10:00 PM
Comprehensive relocation support available

Kensington360 is supporting a large multinational medical device manufacturer in the appointment of a CNC Programmer for its advanced research and product development facility in Philadelphia.

This is not a conventional high-volume production position. You will work in an R&D prototype machining environment, supporting engineers and product development teams as they design, test and validate the next generation of medical technologies.

The work is low-volume and high-mix, typically involving batches of approximately 20–40 components. Designs, materials and manufacturing requirements evolve regularly, making this an excellent opportunity for a programmer who enjoys technically challenging and varied work.

The Role

You will develop, write and optimise CNC programs using Mastercam for complex, high-precision components. Working closely with R&D engineers and machinists, you will help transform CAD models and prototype specifications into reliable machining processes.

The machining environment includes Haas equipment, Star Swiss-type machines, Mikron S400 machines and Heidenhain-controlled equipment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, write and optimise CNC programs using Mastercam
  • Program complex components across multi-axis CNC and Swiss-type machining platforms
  • Interpret CAD models, engineering drawings and prototype specifications
  • Support new product development, prototype and validation builds
  • Collaborate with R&D engineers, machinists and product development teams
  • Troubleshoot programming, tooling and machining challenges
  • Optimise toolpaths, machining strategies and cycle times
  • Produce high-precision components to demanding tolerances
  • Adapt programs as component designs and requirements evolve
  • Maintain documentation within a regulated manufacturing environment

What We’re Looking For

You will need proven CNC programming experience and strong proficiency with Mastercam. You should also be comfortable programming multi-axis machinery and producing complex, tightly toleranced components.

Experience with Heidenhain controls is particularly relevant. Previous work within an R&D, prototyping, NPI or low-volume, high-mix environment would be advantageous.

Candidates from medical device, aerospace, precision engineering or similarly regulated, high-specification manufacturing industries are encouraged to apply.

You should bring strong problem-solving skills, close attention to detail and the adaptability required to work with frequently changing prototype designs.

Why Apply?

  • $90,000 annual salary
  • Stable Monday–Friday late shift
  • Comprehensive relocation support
  • Low-volume, technically varied prototype work
  • Direct involvement in new medical device development
  • Exposure to advanced machining and R&D technologies
  • Opportunity to join a globally recognised organisation
  • Long-term development within an innovative engineering environment

Kensington360 is committed to promoting equal opportunities. Applications are welcomed from suitably qualified candidates regardless of background or personal circumstances.
