Salary range: $40-$50 an hour
The position requires extensive travel throughout North America servicing machine tool mechanical and electrical systems. Training end users on the programming, operation, and maintenance of the machines is also a primary function of this position. Overtime and occasional weekend and holiday work hours will be required on an as needed basis.
DAY-TO-DAY OF THE ROLE
- Installation, programming, safe operation and maintenance training of primarily CNC gear generating machine tools and automated systems. Machines such as hobbing, shaping, shaving, grinding, and honing, are primarily manufactured by Nidec Machine Tool Corporation, Japan.
- Setup and train customers, at their plant facility, on CNC gear machines with customer supplied tooling (fixtures and cutters) or tooling supplied with the machine from the factory.
- Advise customer on proper cutting conditions and offer advice on cutting tools and work holding methods to achieve optimum cutting conditions.
- Answer all questions at the customer site on training items either from learned knowledge or by obtaining answers from technical advisors staffed at NMTA.
- Troubleshoot, diagnose and repair both minor and major mechanical and electrical malfunctions at the customer facility, independently, without direct supervision.
- Written documentation of reported problems, via field service reports and additional reporting methods and policies developed by NMTA on observation, troubleshooting and root cause analysis of the actual condition using clear, concise description of the corrective measures
- Perform preventative maintenance (PM) to a scheduled outline/checklist and instruct customers on proper PM schedule development and adherence to the schedule.
- Installation of new machine software and PLC/PMC ladder logic. In addition, full capability to use the PLC/PMC as a diagnosis tool and to write minor ladder in the field is required.
- Work directly with engineering and service staff from the machine manufacturer for continuous knowledge improvement, documenting and subsequently teaching other service technicians on new procedures, machines and technologies.
- Develop and maintain with the technical services department written diagnostic and corrective action procedures for improved customer and internal support.
- Self-teach on basic new controls systems and have the ability to train both internal personnel and customers.
- Promote the sale of preventative maintenance programs and machine tools products and offered by NMTA.
- Support and assist NMTA staff on interdepartmental projects and special tasks/activities as directed by NMTA management.
- Support and assist in training of less seniority and experienced service personnel as required by management
SKILLS YOU NEED
- A minimum of 5 years’ experience in machine tool field servic
- Good oral and written communication with mid level of computer literacy and the ability to work with most commercially available PC applications software.
